Dear Santas,
This year, as usual, my list is very long, especially because I wouldn’t want any of your many (S)elves to feel left out of the magical spirit of giving. So, I think I’ve included something for everyone.
For Xmas this year I want a bike. Well, a bike and binoculars, but lets focus on the bike first. What I really want is a starter bike. And I know I haven't made it very easy for you, Santas, because I haven't done much homework on my future bike yet, and I'm getting this list to you SUPER late, But what I want is something thats not the superfancybikeimgonnahavefortherestofmylife bike, but the howdoilikehavingabikeinmylife? bike. My bike might even be on Craig's list New York right now and I don't even know it!
Of course, if I could have any bike in the world mine would be kind of old fashioned. It would have style. it would also come with the best bike lock in the world, or maybe two bike locks, cause in this big crazy city sometimes other people are running so late for their fancy meetings that they need to rip off your shoddy flimsy lock and take your bike to their work. Which wouldn’t be so bad, except for the part where you never get to see your bike again, unless, of course, Facebook finds it for you.
My bike would also be light and have light so I can ride my bike at night and carry it up the stairs in the subway when I'm too tired to ride up the big hills. It might even have super cool reflectors and an old fashioned bike bell or a loud New York Car Horn (cause sometimes that’s what you need to get attention on the perillous nyc streets) and fancy bike riding gloves. Also, it would have big bike baskets for carrying the extra suitcases I like to haul around with me every day -- hey don't judge, you never know when a hammers gonna come in handy. You should always have your tools on you. But don't give me a hammer, I have one of those. Also, I have a helmet and promise to protect my noggin when I ride - But speaking of tools, I might need some bike fixing tools, and maybe some reading material on riding and fixing bikes- I want to be able to care well for my new starter bike so it can last a long long time.
Of course, there are so many other things, Santas! I would luuuuurv a special pair of these binoculars Now, these binoculars might be an item I have to pick out for myself- I totally get that, but I'll probably buy them at this cool local New York gadget store called B&H, and I would not be disappointed with a gift certificate from there (buy local New York to help with Sandy reconstruction)!
Oh and also, Santas, My uncle John bought me these amazing earphones last year. They're the best earphones ever. But now that I have an iPhone I want the kind that are also an iPhone headset for phone talking in the car and things. And I went to the Bose store to ogle them and they said that if I bought them within the year Bose will let you upgrade to the fancier version for, like, $30 bucks! So maybe if my uncle John knew about that then something magical could happen?
You know what else I want, Santas: clothes! like a dress from ModCloth (well I have a whole ModCloth wish list) or maybe a gift certificate to Nordstrom or Anthropology? I could also use some winter walking boots. Maybe Sorrels like these (in black, size 9) or something like this (in navy, size 10). Fingerless gloves that turn into mittens (in light grey). Gloves (especially for skiing) that have the little touch sensors so I don't have to take then off to play on my phone. Groovy music. Funk. Violins. Songs to dance too, to drive to, to walk and run to, and to work to. Blue grass. Something Hawaiian.
And, Santas, I like to watch TV. So one of those would be awesome, like a fancy flat screen TV so I can finally get rid of the giant 1980s model that weighs a million pounds and takes up soooooo much space. And to watch on it? Any TV series that is smart and funny and I can both watch over and over again and zone out to, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Friends.
And also, I always love trinkets and accessories. Hand made and funky town. Things I can put in my hair. A giant hobo purse with wide straps and bells and whistles. I like to take baths with nice smelling bath salts And fizzy things. And a pedometer-nothing too fancy, I don't need the heart rate chest strap business, just simple and reliable. A hot sock, some regular boot socks (I wear as 9.5 shoe), and some boot keepers for my awesome boot collection (3 pairs), and some tights (extra large in Black, Graphite, Navy, or Plum) for those cold blustery days.
And finally, good old fashioned fun. Like the kind if fun you have at a hootenanny.
Now, if that's not enough stuff to keep the collective Santas and all your (S)elves busy, I also have included an updated list from last year. All those things are still totally valid.
But ya know, it would probably be okay, I mean I'd be a little sad, but if you just gave a little donation to Occupy Sandy or The Actors Fund in my name, that would make me feel really great.
And finally, Santas, I'm just really glad I get to spend time with my awesomeannoyingcreativesupercoolfamily over your holiday. Especially my expert writer sister who , even though she's younger, taught me how to make a really cool Christmas list.
See ya on the sleigh side.
